A copper alloy figure of Manjushri
Qing, Pala Revival, 18th century
Elegantly cast, standing in a slightly flexed pose on a stepped double lotus pedestal with plump petals, his hands display the gestures of teaching and wish-granting, writhing lotus stems flank his body and blossom with the sword and scroll at either shoulder, he wears a short dhoti with roundels of inlaid copper and silver and is adorned with abundant, beaded jewelry, his face with a steadfast expression, round cheeks, aquiline nose, and sinuous eyes, below a three-leaf tiara with side ribbons and a meticulously detailed jatamukata surmounted by a blossoming jewel.
