A gilt bronze group with Vajrasattva
Nepal, dated to 973 (1853 AD)
With Vajrasattva seated at center on a lotus throne backed by a mandorla, holding the vajra in front of his chest, to the right Vasudhara seated in lalitasana holding various attributes in her six arms with a sun above her, another deity seated at left holding a flower stem with a crescent moon above his head, a fourth deity seated in front of the main one, holding a lotus in each hand, all on a stepped base supported by lions and backed by a flowering torana topped with a chattri finial, a dedicatory inscription on the reverse

Lot Essay
The inscription on the reverse commemorates the death of the father of the donors of this image, who passed away “on the first of the dark half of the month of bhadra in the year 972” (AD 1852), and gives the date of the commission as the year 973 (AD 1853).
