TIBET, 13TH/14TH CENTURY
Himalayan Art Resources item no.2230
古比特佛像网, 编号: 金刚总持:金刚总持122
6 3/4 in. (17.1 cm) high
Rarely found, Vajrasattva Heruka is a purification deity of sins and defilements throughout the main tantric cycles. He is very similar in form to Vajradhara with Prajaparimata but has the slightly wrathful, piercing expression to distinguish him. The base's distinctive petals, derived from Licchavi models, and vaulted baseplate underneath are indicative of an early and unusual style shared by examples published by von Schroeder in Buddhist Sculptures in Tibet, Vol.II, Hong Kong, 2003, pp.1154-8, nos.304D-E, 305B, 305D-E & 306E.
