A gilt copper figure of Vajradhara
Tibet, 15th/16th Century
The Adibuddha seated dhyanasana and displaying the vajrahumkara mudra (hands crossed and holding a vajra and ghanta), the youthful visage juxtaposed by an elaborate headdress encircling a tall black-painted topknot surmounted by a five-prong vajra, the bodhisattva ornaments inlaid with semi-precious stones, a short Tibetan inscription on the verso (traces of original pigment, wear to gilt, unsealed).
