Gilt copper with inset gems
Nepal

The finely cast six-armed form of Vasudhara seated in lalitasana, holding the pustaka, dhanyamanjari, kalasha and triratna, the goddess wearing a long diaphanous lower garment fastened at the waist with a jeweled girdle, naked above and adorned with gem-set jewelry.

Catalogue Note
The six-armed manifestation of the goddess Vasudhara is the most popular Buddhist deity in Nepal, worshipped and revered as provider of wealth and abundance. Typical of Newar workmanship this thirteenth century gilt copper figure is sensuously modelled with jewelry inset with subtly colored gems, cf. a similar Nepalese example of Vasudhara, see Ulrich von Schroeder, Indo-Tibetan Bronzes, 1981, p. 354, fig 93B.
