Figure of Buddha as a recluse

At the age of twenty-nine, the Buddha left his father's palace to become a recluse. The event, known as the Great Departure, is depicted on the large sandstone stele in the Sculpture Court. This marble sculpture shows the Buddha meditating in the wilderness.
